Reducing How Many Uninsured Motorists Cross The Border

Most Mexican drivers entering the United States do not have car insurance. That leaves Mexican and American drivers in a bad situation. Mexican drivers face the impounding of their vehicles and American drivers face the possibility of an accident with an uninsured motorist.

One company is looking to reduce the number of uninsured Mexican drivers on the roads in the United States. Bisnett Insurance has a group of salesmen using hand held devices to sell short term policies to drivers before they enter the U.S. The policies last for 3-7 days and start at about $8.

When an American driver is involved in an accident with an uninsured Mexican driver, their insurance must cover the damages. The American driver may be left paying a deductible for an accident that they did not cause. That deductible could be in addition to medical bills, etc. The hope is that these short term policies will lessen the potential burden on American drivers.
